Why better completions start before completion day

By PEXA • Jul 2026

Post-completion isn’t the problem. It’s where the problem shows up.

Post-completion can feel like the final hurdle in a property transaction. Completion has taken place, clients expect certainty, and the file should be moving towards registration and closure. But for many conveyancing teams, this is where avoidable issues begin to surface: requisitions, missing information, manual corrections, rework and delays to registration.

The reality is that post-completion is not always where the problem begins. It is often where the problem becomes visible. Many issues originate earlier, when information is gathered manually, checked in isolation, rekeyed between systems or validated too late.

If a piece of information will be critical after completion, it should be structured, checked and connected before completion. That means validating title information earlier, reducing repeated manual entry and making sure key data can move through the transaction consistently.

Bringing post-completion forward

Bringing post-completion forward does not mean asking conveyancers to do more work earlier. In a market already under pressure, that would not be sustainable.

It means changing where and how the work happens.

Instead of discovering issues after completion, firms can benefit from workflows that highlight potential problems earlier. Instead of manually re-entering the same data, they can rely on pre-populated, structured information. Instead of treating completion and lodgement as disconnected steps, they can operate through a workflow that links them more closely.

PEXA supports this shift by bringing completion, settlement and lodgement into a single digital environment. Upfront title validation can help highlight issues earlier. Structured data can reduce manual input and inconsistency. A connected workflow can reduce the handoffs that often create delay and duplication.

Post-completion will always matter. But it should not be the point where avoidable problems finally come to light. Better completions do not start on the day. They start well before it.
